Is it easy to Purchase a Used eBook Reader--Yes You Can Buy a Used eBook Reader on eBay UK

There are a plethora of places from where you can purchase an ebook reader in the UK but it becomes more difficult to buy a used ebook reader. One place you are sure to find a used ebook reader is ebay UK.

The number of new models hitting the shops has had a big impact on the second hand market of e book reading devices, making it more likely that you will find one . What was once a near miracle has suddenly become very achievable no more people are swapping their device for one with the latest technical specifications.

I have seen the question above asked on more than one occasion on forums and discussion groups, so I set out to find if it was easy to track down a second user bargain. One thing to remember is that you can now purchase an ebook reader new for under $200, in the form of the Sony PRS-300, and the Franklin, an entry level book reading model, can be found for around the $170 mark, again straight out of the box.

With that in mind, I launched myself into the task of finding the best second user electronic book reader at the lowest price possible. Now I know the usual place to look is on the Amazon site and in the past this has been the best place to track a used model down, but I have always found them few and far between and a bit pricey. So I decided to call on Amazon later, and so headed over to the eBay UK site to see what they had to offer.

I had, in past visits, seldom seen a used ebook reader on the ebay UK website and so was unsure if they would indeed have any to give the once over. As I said earlier, the second user market is far better now more models are available, and so I was pleasantly surprised at the results my search returned.

There were quite a few listings all running through on auction, with one of the better models showing being the now discontinued Sony PRS-500. Also there where a few Sony PRS-505's, these are still selling new over at Amazon, albeit at a lower price than in recent times due to the release of the new Sony range of digital Reading devices.

One of the earliest reading devices, the RCA REB 1100, was another that featured heavily. I admit these are not up there with the newest generation but, if it's a book reader you are looking for, this model will do you a job and can be found in numbers on eBay for under £75/$100. A real steal if you ask me.

There are other devices up for auction but I really set out to find one at an affordable price for everyone who finds it difficult to justify spending £160-£300 ($200-$400) on such a device. The other models available, though higher in spec, came in at between those figures and so defeated the object of this task.

Here's something you might try if you are in no real rush. Christmas is just around the corner, and the eat book reading device price war is well under way, why not hold fire if you are looking to purchase a used ebook reader, then after Christmas and the January sales when the buying flurry is over, and people may have received a replacement for their older model, go and buy a used ebook reader off bay UK at a real bargain price.

Cybook Reader Improves On Many Past Digital Book Readers

The Cybook Reader builds on many of the previous digital book readers, offering added features such as:

Faster page turning, at around 700ms, compared to 1200ms
Better brightness, at 40 percent, compared to 32 percent
Supports 8 grayscale levels, compared to 4 levels with other top selling digital book readers

In other words, it appears to be the powerhouse of eBook readers, with faster page turning, improved brightness, and ability for high number of grayscale levels. On another note, the Cybook reader lowered the contrast (7:1) from the previous contrast (8:1). Both quite low levels in comparison to the LCD technology available these days, but this is being worked on.

Many people, after using the Cybook, claim that was quite disappointing in comparison to other readers, though not everyone had the same opinion. These disappointed users claimed that the text was often way too small to read (in landscape mode). They also claimed the device crashed at times when trying to read PDF documents. The company claimed that their device did not specify the ability to read PDF documents, and many users were disappointed. With eBooks readers, almost all generally have the ability to read PDF files. The company also noted that in order to read PDF files, the screen would have to be much larger, almost 10 by 13 inches. As well know, this is quite big, and has not been done yet. The price of such an eBook reader would be very high.

In short, if you are looking for an eBook reader to read PDF documents mostly, this is definitely not for you. Otherwise, the Cybook reader may be right for you. Although some users were disappointed with the reader, these were generally those who expected a PDF capable reader.

The Cybook reader is very portable, with a 6 inch screen at 600 by 800 pixels. The resolution is good for reading text, although the photos with such resolution will not look good at all. Another great feature of the Cybook is that you can add memory through the SD card slot. Also, adding books is as simple as plugging the USB into your computer, and just dragging them onto the drive. Simple enough.

On top of the features mentioned so far, the Cybook offers MP3 capabilities for audio books, or even music while your reading. The only problem is that the socket used for audio is not the standard 3.5mm, so you will most likely have to plan a trip to the electronic store for this.

Though it does have quite a few good features, the Cybook is definitely not one of the better readers out there. It does not have some features that should be in every device (for example, the PDF issue). Another huge downside to the device is that pages are not shown at the bottom, making it extremely confusing for users if they lose their page count. Nonetheless, if you are able to cope with these negatives, then the Cybook is fine. Otherwise, stay far away from the Cybook reader and look at other digital book readers to fill your requirements.
